How do you know if your opti is gone?
I have a 94 Z A4 and pressure washed my engine about 3 months ago. It ran like sh*t for about 2 or 3 days. It would not idle at all when in gear, and would shake and make a squeeking sound tremendously. This cleared up for the most part, and things seem to be back to normal. However, I can still hear an ever faint squeeking noise when the A4 will downshift to 3rd or 2nd doing 60mph. Power doesn't seem to be lost anywhere, just wondering if my opti is gone/about to go or what...
Thanks.
Thanks.

I wouldn't imagine the opti could possibly cause a squeaking noise during 2-3 shift. IF your opti was going you would probably experience some of the forms issues you had after the pressure was initially (stumbling, poor idle, misses) since the opti is part of the ignition system. There really is nothing in your opti that could even cause a noteicable squeaking sound at 60mph (not that you could hear).

It sounds like you got lucky, and your ignition system cleared up on it's own.- You'll know when your opti takes a crap on you for good. It comes on pretty suddenly if your cap and rotor are causing problems (terminals start bridging causing pre-ignition) and it just gets worse from there...- since everything got better I wouldn't worry about it, but fyi, these engines don't appreciate high pressure water very much.
And the squeaking can be attributed to a zillion things in these cars. I've been working on removing my squeaks, and it seems for every one I fix, one just pops up again. My car is possessed and is determined to embarrass me when I have a chick in the car. "squeak....squeaka squeaka"- tensioner pulley, crickets in back- still trying to track this one down. Don't know if I'll ever find the stupid thing.
