Exclamation how do you know if you have bad motor mounts? and how to install new ones?

My driver's side MAC primaries rub on the steering shaft, and the y-pipe rubs on the crossmember. its hard to get the y-pipe to fit properly, and I was told this could be because I have worn motor mounts. Is there any other way to check?

And how hard is it to install motor mounts by yourself? I have the stock motor mounts in there, and they have 92k on them.....

I've done a search and found no results, so any help would be appreciated... thanks!

It's very likely the stock rubber mounts have excessive sag to them with 92k miles. Installing polyurethane mounts isn't a bad idea when installing a new exhaust, especially longtubes. They will last pretty much indefinitely and therefore maintain exhaust system position. They do not add any noticable harshness to the drivetrain IMO.

Installing them is kind of a pain as you have to play with the entire weight of the engine to get everything into position. Removing the rivets from the stock mounts isn't much of a joy either. In the end it's worth it though

sweet, thank you for the response, buttercup.

i'll probably be ordering the es poly mounts from thunderracing - i'm heading over to dr. mudge's next week to put in new lifters and rocker locks, so I guess il'l work on the motor mounts there too. I hear he has a nice drill.

thanks again!
