How do you compress the rear calipers???

I have never figured this out and I need too. I bought a tool today that a buddy at Carquest told me I needed. Its a square box with little nubs on it, supposed to spin the piston in as it compresses. But I don't see how its supposed to work on this caliper. Anyone got ideas?

same as the front. 6in. clamp. one side against outer pad the other against the back of the caliper.

See I've done that and it doesn't compress enough. I've always left one worn pad in there and put one new one in to fit. I thought it had something to do with the parking brake or something.

I have always used a c-clamp and a big socket. Just put the socket on the piston caliper and then clamp the c-clamp down slowly until it no longer moves.

yeah, unhook the p-brake cables. that'll do it. i also did the "free travel" adjustment. after rear brakes i had no emergency brake engagement at all.

Get your money back on the tool. Not needed.

Well, I won't be able to tell until I get new pads tomorrow, but I unhooked the parking brake cable and compressed as much as I could. That also means I'll have to put some slack in the parking cable line behind the tranny right? Makes sense.

Shoebox is right, no need for the tool. You can always compress them with your hands, pushing the piston back.
You gotta be patient, cause it's a hydraulic piston and you can't push it too fast, it takes a while, but it really takes no big effort to push on it. Just push that SOB and be patient
