i would just pull the throttle body off so you can get to it then pull it out and clean it and the tb while you are at it.

What he said. Get the TB rebuild kit from GM Parts Direct, & clean out your TB and IAC valve, your car will run better.

Do not soak it. That can ruin it. Clean it with a toothbrush and some solvent. Don't push or pull on the pintle.

Uh oh... I just cleaned my TB and IAC this weekend and push/pulled the pintle in and out a few times. What happens if you do this?

Soon, the world as you know it, will cease to exist.

Normally the pintle gets harder to move as it ages. Moving it manually can strip the worm gear. Also, if you alter the position from what it was when it came out, it will not match the last position the pcm had.

If you are not suffering any problems, don't worry about it.

I had problems with my car whenever I would put in the clutch and hit the brakes hard the rpms would dive down and then come back up just before it would die. I used a small brush and some engine cleaner on it last time the TB was off and it fixed the problem.

There are two kinds of IAC's. 1 style is the push/pull adjustable. You simply measure from the tip of the pintle to the house (bottom of the threads). push it in until you get the required length via the manual, re-install it, and reset your PCM by pulling the PCM fuse.

The second style is the screw in/screw out type. If you attempt to push this one in or pull it out; you will strip out the threads (they are plastic). There are two shafts inside this motor. The one that slides is adjusted electrically by the IAC. The screw in portion is for the mechanical adjustment via the manual. Reset the PCM blah, blah, blah. You get the point.
