Question How do you adjust pushrod guide plates?

I would like to know how to adjust the guide plates on my race engine.
It's a Chevy 350 of course.
I have never used guide plates before and don't know how to adjust them.
I would guess you adjust them before you adjust the vlaves.
Thanks,

Chris G.

Did you buy adjustable guideplates? If not, the only adjustment by the amount of slack in the mounting holes and it isn't much. The amount of adjustment is gauged by observing the contatct pattern the rocker arm makes on the top of the valve stem.

They are ARF 220cc heads they came with there own guide plates.
With the studs loose they have a bit of play.

Thanks,

Chris G.

Re: How do you adjust pushrod guide plates?

I'm interested in the response as well.

But if there is no definite procedure then I believe my instinct is to "eyeball" it.

Do a couple "mock" assemblies and see if you achieve linear actuation without obstruction.

Normally, excessive rubbing of the pushrod is a good thing. But in engine assembly I think we would want to avoid it.

You paint the top of the valve stem with machinists dye (or just use a Sharpie). Observe the wear pattern the rocker tip makes and adjust for best centering.
