How do I spin the motor by hand?

I have a '94 LT1 motor and I was wondering how do i turn the motor over by hand? There is not a crankshaft bolt to hold on to. All i see are these 3 small bolts on the crankshaft?

Get a 5/8" socket, that will fit on the bolt in the crank snout. That would be the hole in the middle of the crank pulley. You can put a breaker bar on that and spin by hand. The other thing you can do is get a tool that turns the engine using the teeth on the flywheel. You take the flywheel cover off, then the tool hooks onto the flywheel and you turn the motor.

I would suggest the breaker bar on the crank snout though.

thanks that helps, i didnt think there was a bolt in the middle of the pulley, i guess i was wrong. Also how tight should that be? Is there a certain tq. that should be applied for the motor to spin? I think i may have seized my motor I just need some tips on how to make for sure.

Just use a breaker bar and use enough force, by hand, to turn the engine over. The longer the breaker bar, the easier it will be!!!

Well I was on a creeper under the car, could spin it ok with a breaker bar but had to brace myself to keep from rolling around. If you are pushing with all your might then you have a problem!

Take some plugs out and that will relieve compression that you might encounter.

74 lb. ft. is the torque value for the crank hub bolt.

turned over with ease. Why does it sound like its knocking? Could I still have a bottom end problem with it turning over so easily?

Does it feel like it's binding up anywhere?

Well what was the oil pressure like when you heard knocking? Any roughness in the motor or felt like it was missing? I really don't have much experience with knocking coming from the motor, but I'd pull the valve covers off and have a look at the valvetrain first. If that all looks ok I guess it would have to be in the bottom end

Hmm..for me I found it easier to use a flywheel turner; but to each his own.

well the oil pressure gauge along with other gauges dont work. Its a v6 to v8 swap with lots of wiring issues i beleive. It will only start when I disconnect the TPS wire from the pcm. This may be why it sounds like its knocking. Any helP?
