How do I remove valve springs?

Looking at a couple cam install pages and none of them show how to remove the valve springs. Do I need a special tool? I am putting in the new cmotorsports springs. Do I remove them before or after the new cam is in?

You need a valvespring compressor. You can get a cheapie Sears one for 15 bucks, or a much better one from Summit for around 60-70 bucks (made by Moroso). The Moroso will make life MUCH easier.

You can do it before or after - doesn't really matter. I would do it before, but I like to get the hardest part out of the way first - the spring swap is the hardest (more or a big pain really) part of the install.

Do yourself a favor and do not go the cheap route. Get the good compressor...either Proform or Moroso stud mount. If you get the non stud mount you will be in a world of hurt.

Here is a good page to help you:
