how do I remove the OPTI SEAL and WP SEAL?

I can not get these 2 bad girls out and it is driving me insaine!

i have heard that you can pry the waterpump seal out. on my timing cover at the 12 oclock position i have a little notch where a screw driver fits. Do i shove a scredriver in and pry it out? someone mentioned drilling a hole, but there isnt room for my drill to fit.

and now the big seal that butts up between the opti and timing cover, how the freak do i remove it!!! i am destroying it with vice grips! there has to be a better way or some sort of idea out there.

please help i need my car running by sat night so i can go and get my gears installed. Thanks a bunch for all your replies.

Opti seal is pretty easy.. I just took a screw driver and hammer, then easily tapped between the seal and the timing cover untill i could grab it with some pliers and pull it out..

As for the WP seal.. Not sure never done that one with the cover still on the car..

Yeah it may take a few good hits to get inbetween the seal and the cover.. Once you do the seal will being to bend.

If you are going to take a hammer to it, don't let the screwdriver dig a hole into the sealing surface on the block.

I used a long (6 inches maybe) flat screwdriver and tried prying out the bottom of the seal from inside the seal, using the top part of the seal as a fulcrum. I think I ended up tapping it with a hammer. The seal got torn up pretty bad, but I got the seal far enough out to take some pliers and pull the rest of it out.

Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't, but good luck.

I did all my timing cover seals last month, It is very EASY to mess up the water pump seal if you havent installed one before. Check out this thread, I got some pretty good advice for the water pump seal installation.
