Question How do I remove the exhaust headers?

Ok, I have to remove the drivers side exhaust header to drill out a bolt and to replace the exhaust gasket.

The haynes manual just tells me to disconnect the AIR injection port and the bolts that hold it to the manifold and y-pipe.

But how do i get the manifold out? Can I pull it out the top or can i just drop it out the bottom?

Because if I drop it out the bottom I will probably have to drop the y-pipe, and i really dont want to take on the passenger side bolts as well (they are all rusted)

Thanks

You can probably just unbolt the manifold from the y-pipe, remove the AIR injection fittings, and unbolt the manifold from the heads, and pull it out the top. The driver side is a piece of cake; it's the passenger side thats a tough job.

Ok, Thats kind ot what i figured. I just hope that i can get all of the bolts off without breaking anymore. They are really rusted on there!

Also, If i replace the passenger side O2 sensor because of a service engine code, should i replace the drivers side O2 sensor as well?

Thanks

No need to replace the other o2 if its working fine... I'd spray teh header bolt with liquid wrench teh night before you do the removal...this helps a lot and reduces the chance of breaking any of the header bolts in the head.

is your bolt broke off in the head or the ypipe? if its the head you probably won't be able to reach it on the car.

The bolt is broke off in the exhaust header where it connects to the Y-pipe.

I will deffinately take better care of the bolts in the head. I am going to lube those things up, and break away all of the debri and rust.

This will be a good weekend job for sure.
