how to do a.i.r. /egr delete?
i was reading another post and they were saying if u dont have inspections that he should look into getting rid of these if he has no worries! so i figured the first place to look into this would be shoeboxes site! but the site pretty much showed where they were on the engine. does anyone know where i could find pics on how to do this? and if there is any other stuff that deals with these 2 that i could take off as well?
thanks

first off,
Taking them off on a 97 may cause a code, so you may have to have somone flash the pcm to shut them off. Secondly, dont rmove EGR if you are running the stock cam still and live in a hot area, it helps cooling.
the easiest way to do AI mpact AiR requires and a sawzall.
Remove air pump
Using sawzall or bolt cutters cut off metal tube coming out of manifiold right above the nut. Repeat on other side
Remove hoses and tube. Using impact and deep socket take nuts off. I have tried 4 times to get these nuts off with wrenches to no avail. Good luck if you are going to try. then you wil have to cut the air tube that goes under the motor in 2 spots with the sawzall and take it out in sections. I think there is a bolt or a clip holding it to the back of the ac compressor bracket.
Use M22 X 1.5 drain plugs with copper washers or M22 X 1.5 pipe plugs to fill holes in the manifold. (somtimes hard to find locally)
With the EGR I removed the valve and the tube and made by ownblockoff plates for the tube holes. GM sells one for the valve.

YOU CAN REMOVE THE EGR
you could remove the egr & remove the code from your computer
i did it, no ill effects, but i also run my engine cooler, look in my sig.
the egr doesn't cool the engine body, but it provide some type of
cooling in the combustion chamber........
if somebody knows a little in detail, please chim in.

I believe it lowers combustion temp by mixing exhaust with the intake air. The fuel won't burn as fast (and thus not as hot) because the exhaust air is depelted of much of its oxygen. Someone corret me if I'm wrong on this though
