To tell you how stupid I am, I thought an LT4 and an LT1 were the same block.

LT4 blocks have 4-bolt mains. Other than that they are the same.

But he manetioned it was a shortblock... If so then then the crank and some other things are different.

A guy already told you how to tell them apart in the other thread. Go back and look.

Here's some facts and part numbers on the two, I didn't see anything about a part # on the block but maybe the other facts will help:

The shortblock may be different but who cares anyway since the power was in the topend not the bottom. 4 bolts, who cares given the power guys are making with 2 bolts the 4 bolts aren't going to help anything anyway. Just my $.02

This thread already covered it as well as it's going to be covered:

I know the eyebrows[valve reliefs] in the tops of pistons are smaller than an LT1, also see this post:

Specifically the ZXD cast into the front pad, seems like good info to me...
Block is a 4 bolt LT1 block basically, but crank, rods, pistons, rings, are different..

See the link. Even just the shortblock is different than an LT1 4bolt main shortblock. Different crank, timing set, camshaft among other small differences. If I was buying it I would want to know if it was really an LT4 if someone claimed it was.

Yes, the ZXD was what I was wondering about. Will it be stamped on the block itself or on a head? I will not be getting the heads nor the cam with the block, thats why was wondering.
ZXD is for a 96 LT4 manual and thats why I am asking, hoping it is stamped on the block somewhere and not the head!

I asked the guy from the vette forum. He said it was stamped on the block.
