Post How do I know if my opti. is gone?

I am going to be replacing my waterpump soon and need to know how will I know if my opti has went to? What are the symptoms of this happening?

well if the opti is shot, you car wont run, simply put... now if its on the way out, you may have hard times starting when hot, spit n sputters throughout the rpm's , car will just die and not start.. theres a few other odd things it can do that you'd probably notice...

the car is running good though, at a redlight or something, after sitting for a minute.... the ses light comes on and throws 44 and 64 codes... and the rpms drop.. this makes me wonder if it does this kuz the waterpump is leaking on the opti causing it to drop rpm's at idle and throwing those codes. at times the car is somewhat hard to start but nothing unusual. THE CODES MEAN RIGHT AND LEFT 02'S ARE RUNNING LEAN AND I REPLACED THOSE AND IT STILL HAPPENS.

yes, I am hoping that it is the waterpump only and not the opti. Is it likely that my opti is still good?

Many people have complaints about anything but GM O2's on our cars. What brand are your replacements?

they are ac delco... and there was prolly nothing wrong with my old ones either since it is still doing this SES light and throwing the codes.

Do you think its really running lean? Or does the PCM just think this and add fuel making it run rich?

honestly I am not sure.. my a/f gauge reads lean pretty much as well. PCMforless is sending me a file and is going to add some fuel to it and try to richen it up a little. I had to get a valve job done not to long ago and they seem to think with that done, it is burning more fuel. They told me to add the fuel to it and see what happens.

Well if your O2's read lean the PCM will add fuel to try to correct before it throws the code. I dont know if you still have your cats in place but if you dont it would be obvious at idle with a faint black smoke and it would irritate your eyes. I dont know how much your cats would clean this up though. Can you check your fuel pressure just to make sure thats not causing a lean condition?

No, I dont have anything to check me fuel pressure with? I have a high-flow cat on the car now. You live in Dallas huh?

My cats blew up when my opti died...........must have dumped a sh*t load of raw fuel into the cats (I was at WOT getting scanmaster data)..........was actually kinda cool.
Brian
Oh yeah, and the car ceased to run.........

Well I sure hope it isn't the opti. I cant afford that right now so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
