Nope, not sure what you're talking about...

From what I can tell from Ken Lowrances site, the shock assembly comes out as one whole unit, and I'm just left with holes there...

So they got some hardware grade 8 bolts and came up through the bottom and bolted their STB back in?

I guess what I'm sayin is once those nuts come off, the studs go away...
Oops, yeah the stud will go with the shock mounts, but you could use a jack to create some separation and then put a bolt through a hole. Those lift hooks are what I am talking about. I guess not everyone has some laying around from old engines like I do.

friend of mine pulled his out through the top with no problems. He made a bracket to bolt to the 3 bolts that hold the lifter guide thing under the intake manifold. Worked perfect!

He already pulled it out through the top and wants to put it back in through the bottom.

I might actually have some lift hooks laying around from my 5.0, not sure if I put them back on or not

Like shoebox mentioned I did pull it out the top, but that wiring harness and accessories is goign to be a PITA to put back in working in that bay. I think if I can get the engine/accessories/headers/tranny/wiring harness all togother and put it up through the bottom things might be easier? I don't know, I've come this far...

So basically...

Jack up the front high enough to get a 4x4 under each side, take the wheels off, then lower the car back down onto the cradle onto the 4x4's.

Undo everything, then jack up the car a bit, put a STRONG bolt up through the shock tower, and attached to the hoist. start crankin slowly and hope everything clears? I might want my back tires on ramps instead of the back on jackstands, safer with the angle right?

I have seen them out with the wheels still on. That way all you have to do is balance the tranny with a jack and roll it.

YEah that might be an idea...

My problem I think is that I don't have too much room to work with I think if I pushed my car BACK some OUT the garage and put the back wheels on ramps I might be better off. I don't know...is it safe to put the back on JACKSTANDS (on the sides of the car like in this pic) and then RAISE the front?

As it is, I don't have much room to work on the front of my car...

But, now it's facing the other way...

I hope what I'm saying makes sense

See, my &$!$#@ driveway kind of slopes down, so I can't really pull it outside

I would put the back tires on ramps or on top of some old wheels. I would be afraid to raise the front high with the back on jackstands, fearing that the car would slip off.

I have also seen some pics where the front was held up by jackstands on top of ramps (on the front subframe rails) to get it high enough.

Old wheels, now THOSE I DO have! Save money on buying ramps...If I back teh car out maybe 1/2 way out the garage, then throw the back up on tires and raise up the front, I should have room to work around the whole car, if I want to ROLL the cradle out on the wheels. What a PITA. Stupid driveway!

RIht now I've only got ~1' clearance between the front of the car and my workbench. BTW, I got my rotating assy today...check P.2
