how did you install your exhaust cut out?

how did you install your exhaust cut out?
I have the cut out, but now the problem is its the same diameter as the exhaust pipe im putting it into (a piece of 3 inch replacing the converter) so how did all of you do it? Swedge the pipe and slip it in, or but weld it. Thanks, Prorac1
