Ok alittle background. My water pump decided to take a puke on me this weekend. Took off from work yesterday to replace it. All went smooth so I think. Tonite while leaving cosco I notice a spot under my car and I started thinking not more coolant!!. Pulled the car back and took a look and its oil!!!! so what did I screw up on my install???

It is probably something unrelated to the water pump and would have leaked anyways. I had a fuel leak and it was so dirty by the time it hit the ground it was black. Could it be some other liquid?

the only thing to do with the water pump and oil is the seal that is around the shaft that goes into the pump.

First thing you need to do is find out where the oil is comming from..get under their with a flash light and find that leak!

Its too late to go out there with a flash light. Ill have to check in the morning. Is it possible to damage the the shaft seal when putting the pump on?

Formula is right, there is a seal for the shaft that goes behind the water pump. If it was dry and old then perhaps it was moved enough to disturb the seal. You'll see it dripping from the front of the engine. They aren't much and if you confirm it is the source of the leak, then there are a few good links that give you tips on how to install it.
