How Crutial Evap System

Hey I was wondering how crutial the evap system on the lt1 is? Let me know thanks.

are you asking about the fuel evap system, has the vapor canister in it?

You might get some gas fumes without it.

Its not crucial, but it recovers fuel that can be burned in the engine, and it keeps the smell down at the back of the car. When I see people make comments like:

and
More or less just cluttery under the hood.
it makes me realize how little people actually know about the system.

The only real problem I could see in having this on your car is that it puts more heat back into your engine because its pulled from the exhaust.
Atleast thats what i think i learned..

No.... you proved my point.

You are confusing it with EGR..... recycling of exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. And, net-net, EGR reduces engine heat because it quenches combustion chamber temperatures, by displacing oxygen.

The "EVAP" or "EEC" system pulls clean ambient air through the charcoal canister in the drivers rear fender, picks up some hydrocarbon vapor, and runs it in what appears to be the "third fuel line", through the EVAP purge solenoid, and into the side of the throttle body. From there, the ambient temperature air and fuel is burned in your engine.

I'm pretty aware of what the system does and I chose to remove it, mainly because of the solenoid and the associated plastic lines which I found to be annoying. My system did fail, that was another factor and I've ensured that the gas tank is vented through a charcoal type filter. I haven't noticed any fumes.

How do you purge you "charcoal type filter"?

I'm not arguing with anyone's decision to remove it..... its your car, do what you want with it. But for the guy who asked the question, some of the advice he got was simply incorrect, and displayed a general ignorance of what purpose the system served, and how it worked.... not uncommon with regards to the emissions equipment.

Somehow I manged to build an 800HP nitroused stroker (street driven), and kept all the emissions equipment intact and functional. It took a bit of creativity, because I had to integrate the stock PCM (controlling VSS, IAC and emissions) with an aftermarket ECU that controlled everything else. The car would pass NJ rolling emissions. Unfortunately, it wouldn't pass "visual" and now that NJ-DMV pulls cars over "at random" on the street and does a full rolling emissions check and a full visual, I don't drive it on the street.

Since its only a "track car", it no longer has cats, EGR, EVAP or AIR, but since it only gets driven about 1/4-mile at a time , I don't think I'm doing too much harm to the environment. And I kinda like the smell of C16......
