How common is it to start hitting the rev limiter after header install? (A4)
When I was open header I thought I had a high RPM miss somewhere around redline (very noticable). After getting everything hooked up, and having a high flow cat welded up, it is now barely noticable, but still present.
I'm starting to think the car was just spinning up extemely quickly (due to better flow/no back pressure) and hitting the rev limiter before it could shift. AND I'm thinking that the reason it's not doing it quite so much now is because the exhaust is being routed all the way back again. BUT the better flowing headers are still allowing it to spool up a bit fast anyway and kiss the limiter.
What do you think? Miss or rev limiter?
Computer tuning is on the way next month. I guess reseting the rev limiter could be in order.

I noticed I was hitting the rev-limiter when accelarating in first gear after I did my install, it was revving up so much faster in first gear that I was not used to it. Also dont forget I have an M6.
Words dont describe the increase in power.
It was clearly the limiter which is set at 6K on my current tune and not a miss. I have a tune to go 6.2K to put in when I can bum a laptop.
If your car hits the rev limiter with an A4 there must be a problem.

I had the very same thing happen to me right after my header install as well. It could be a couple of things:
1. Are you sure that all your spark plugs are tight? One of my friends had a high rpm miss that ended up being a loose spark plug. He said that there was no miss other than the upper rpm range.
2. Did you disconnect your battery for at least 15 minutes? Your car's computer needs to learn the higher flow. Try disconnecting the battery and then run the hell out of it for a little bit after words. This helped with my situation.
Hope this helps!

I don't know... All the plugs are tight. This wasn't happening before the headers, MSD opti cap and rotor, NGK TR6 platinum plugs and wires. Whatever it is has to do with the new parts because it wasn't doing it before.
I'm almost ready to try upgrading the coil. Any suggestions on a particular coil for my 95?

Well if it isn't your plugs, definitly disconnect the battery for at least 15 minutes to clear the computer and let it relearn your car. Try that first before throwing parts at it.

[QUOTE=kick Z tail out]Oh yeah I forgot to address that one. The battery was disconnected for about half an hour the last time I retorqued the heads.
Very interesting. How much have you driven it since you disconnected it? It took probably about 20-30 miles before my car would stop doing that rev limiter crap.

If this issue isn't resolved (no matter how slight it is) before my dyno tune, will it be stupid to go ahead and dyno tune it?
Or will it be okay to have it done even with this slight issue?

If you have an A4, and your tranny is not shifting out of 1st and hitting the rev limiter before finally going into 2nd, the tranny is starting to slip. A high RPM would be a totally different story... and as others have said, when you bang that rev limiter, you notice it.
It may have been on a fine line to begin with, and with the additional power it is now done for.

Now from what you guys are saying, hitting the rev limiter would be a lot more dramatic, correct? Like as in, the way the car would behave if ASR kicks in? I've never hit the rev limiter, so I guess I'm not sure how it would react.
If so, then I'm thinking it must be a miss... Because it's over really quickly.
I imagine hitting the rev limiter must be like ASR, since they both do the same thing (cut fuel) yeah?
