Question How come my A4 doesn't have first as an option?

Ok I have noticed on A4's you can choose from OD, D, 2nd, and 1st. However, on my car I can only go from OD, D, and then L. Why is that? Did something change later in years down the road for the A4's?

This is a commonly asked question you could do a search on. It is easy and FREE to modify it to where you can select first, though I'd recommend against it unless you have a built 4L60E. Long story short, do to EPA noise testing, cars with the 2.73 gear option versus the 3.23 came without the option to select 1st gear.

Cars that came w/2.73s = no 1st gear selection
Cars that came w/3.23s = 1st gear selection

Something to do w/noise requirements, I guess with the 2.73s in first gear it resonates more or something....

I have always thought of getting 373's. Do they make a big difference? And how much top end will I lose?

I picked up 3 tenths.
I can only go about 150mph now but my redline is higher than stock cause of my cam.I would say you could still go 140mph or so in O.D with stock redline

If you want first gear, remove the console and take out the rubber stopper that prevents the shifter from physically engaging first gear. Problem solved.

So I will be able to keep pulling my shifter and it just go back to the blank spot behind L?

Yeah...and if it doesn't just come out i've heard of people using a dremel to cut the piece that blocked out first.

But yeah, once it is out you can just pull the shifter into that blank spot.

I was gonna do it but then I decided i'm gonna sell my car and get me a 6 speed.

I have been told this might hurt my transmission. I take it though people hurt their transmission by putting it in first and just running it to hard right?
