How can I check this?
How can I check this?
My 1995 Z28 automatic just passed smog at a Star Station in CA, but the NO and HC numbers were on the high end. Because I have rebuilt bowl blended heads with Isky springs, #501 cam, 52mm TB, Flowmaster cat-back,open maf,and an MSD coil, and all I get are 5.7sec 0-60's (g-meter) hazzing my 285x17 tires, I think maybe my ignition lead and total timing might be low. How can I check what I have, and add timing to improve response and power? I am the second owner, and now have 121k original miles. I would like a simple do-it-yourself upgrade if possible. I do not have any installed tunes. I also have an anoying slow idle ( 600) that I would like to bump 100 rpm. Got ideas?
Re: How can I check this?
The reason I mentioned Star Smog was because my 15 and 25 mph tests were at only 1415rpm and 1395rpm, where these engines are still running a bit dirtier than at higher rpm. But, because my numbers were on the high side of passing,HC 45/27, I am concerned that maybe I don't have enough initial timing, anybody know how I can check it and boost it up? By the way, my replacement single converter was checked for the CA identification, and forced the tester to do a lot of research before finally allowing it.
Re: How can I check this?
Who tuned it for the current setup/heads/cam?
If you want to tune it yourself, you need TunerCat, LT1_EDit or Tunerpro RT. It would probably be a good idea to look through the "Computer Diagnostics and Tuning" forum. I know there's a "sticky" for Tunerpro.
