How big of a difference between ported LT1 and LT4 heads?

I want to know as much as there is too know about the LT1/4 heads and intake, and porting potentials for them.

I made better than 550 rwhp through a very heavily modified LT4 intake so I already know it can be done. The intake flowed a tad less than the heads so I have to wonder what she could have done with a really good intake.

The guy who ported the heads for that build was adamant in stating that I'd probably lose 3% vs a cast converted single plane and 5% vs sheetmetal. I can only wonder at this point.

Once you start turning a stroker above 7k the stock intake, even heavily modified, is going to start hurting your potential in a big way. My opinion of course.

I'm glad I read over your post, that's a nice rwhp figure you made. I did a set of LT1 heads for my car, ended up 243 cfm intake/180 cfm exhaust, will be running a custom comp 236/248 .608/.578 on a 111 and had been hoping for around 400 at the wheels. After seeing what your setup made I think I might be able to squeeze 400 out of mine.

What do you mean by "heavily modified" intake?

In my case, heavily modified went as far as.... welding above runners and increasing runner cross section area, removing top from intake to radius runner entries and throttle inlet, machining new top plate, machining spacers to improve runner alignment with GM 15º cylinder head and machining rail end plates to seal lifter valley.

Definitions will vary I'm sure.
