Re: how accurate is the g-tech

From what I read the 1/4 time is pretty accurate, which is one of a tenth and the mph is usualy accurate with few mph.

i have the g-tech pro but have not used it yet. from what i have heard they are within a tenth on the quarter, as long as you get your vehicle weight accurate.

Trap speed is always very high on the G-techs due to the way they calculate it. They give the trap speed at the very end of the 1/4 mile. At a track, your speed is averaged over the last x amount of feet.

Normally the G-Tech is at least 3 mph high on the trap speed. The e.t. can be fairly close, but many times that is way off too.

The problem I have with G-techs is that you never know if they are correct or not. It's a guess as to whether it was able to get an accurate reading or not.

I tried to take one out and test my HP. One run told me 230 hp, another run told me 260 hp. Same day, same place, same car, same gear... I calibrated the unit like it said, and input the car weight. At the time my car made over 285 rwhp, so the numbers were WAY off in either case.

I don't have any faith in them. Many will argue about it, but the fact remains that you never know if the G-tech just gave you an accurate #, or pure garbage.

If your car ran low 13's I would be surprised...especially on the street with a G-Tech.

Yeah, you basically have very little HP adders(maybe 5-9 rwhp), just tranny/rear end mods.

I'd say mid to low 13's at best, especially on the street.

My buddy has a WRX and he uses the G-tech to check all his numbers. It's very frustrating. He's never taken it to the 1/4 mile to prove what the G-tech is telling him. He has a few mods and got a 14.4@103 out of the G-tech. Who runs such a crappy e.t, with a 103 trap speed, especially in a WRX? If a WRX, with AWD, was able to trap 103, it should be able to hit 13.0 with it's launching capability. Just goes to show how screwed up, in my opinion, the G-techs are. He also get's his HP numbers from it.

It makes me want to hook it up to make a run and have it give me some crazy fast time, just to prove to him that it's not accurate. The only problem is that they are so variable, who knows what would happen if I tried to prove my point.
