how the !$%@ do you scan a 95' OBDI
how the !$%@ do you scan a 95' OBDI
My car will start, run fine, then while driving just turn off. Well it started today, i drove it around, adn then it just turned off while i was driving and wouldnt start again. The check engine lgihts are on, so i know its throwing a code. Im trying to get a scanner, but NO ONE carries anything that can scan my car. Its a 95' OBDI, but has the 16 point plug for scanners. OBDI are supposed to be a different connection, according to Auto Zone and Kragens. But, for some reason i have the plug for an OBDII, on a OBDI car....what the hell?? any one know, or am i just dumb.
my brothers '95 TA is the same way, and we cant find anyone to scan it around here either
your best bet would be to check out www.akmcables.com i've had little luck in reaching them myself tho

The scanning ports on 95's are in the shape of an OBDII port but as you know are still using OBDI. The pin configuration is different from the 96-02's. Once you find a cable from AKM or somewhere, use datamaster and it will only take five minutes and you will be able to download your codes. Hope that helps a little.

If you don't have the correct cable for an OBD-I scanner, you can adapt the 12 pin cable from your scanner like this and it will work.

You cannont use the paper clip method on anything past a 1993 on the LT1 F-body, so that is not gonna help.

I seriously hope your not serious about that. I have a 95 and It worked every time with the Auto X-ray. They even have a diagram showing you how to use the paper clip trick.
Right Here
I just hooked it up using a paper clip I broke in half. You can use anything as long as it's made of a metal that can carry an electrical signal it's fine.

Autozone sells an Actron scanner that will scan your car, only thing is you will have to buy the OBD2 software to get the cable you need to scan 95 OBD1s.
Its a giant pain in the *** but you have to use the OBD1 software with the OBD2 cable the only good thing is at least the OBD2 powers my scanner unlike the OBD1 cable which has to have seperate power supply (cig lighter), you can still get out the door for about 300 buks and you will be able to scan GMs from like 85 on up to 94 or 95 and any OBD2 cars.
