Hotcam VS CC304

Which is hotter, which idles better, which has a better power range, I know the hotcam with 1.5 rockers you can use stock springs- how about the cc304?

I've got the LT4 HC in my car, and lemme tell ya....I love it. I didn't even consider a different cam for my car.

However, I do have a question about the HC, even though it doesn't involve my car directly.

I thought I was reading a post on the LT1 Tech threads a few days ago, and someone stated that stock their car was trapping 14.0 @ 98-99mph, and now with the HC setup, they were only trapping 13.8 @ 101mph. What gives with this guy's car?

Even under some rare circumstances, I've heard of NO GAINS netted with the LT4 HC setup. What's up with that? I was trapping 13.60s @ 103mph BEFORE the HC setup (on streets), and now I'm trapping 12.0s @ 110mph with the HC setup, and some other slight mods (Hooker LTs, Y-pipe, Loudmouth, 2400 Vigilante, shift kit, 3.42s, aluminum driveshaft, 1LE bellow, cold air intake, 52mm throttlebody, carrier, airfoil). My highest trap thus far has been 113mph, but my 1/4 time was averaging around 12.30s with the 113mph traps. What's up with that?! Where are my 11s?!

BTW, I haven't ported/polished heads, intake, or anything else either. The engine is stock other than the 1.6RRs that came with my HC setup, LT4 HC, and LT4 springs. All my mods are easy bolt-ons.

whats up with that guys car? probably nothing. nothing was said about the track conditions, with or without tuning. etc. there could be lots wrong with his car/ setup. You just don't know. I would expect to see some gains somewhere, bottom line. Besides without a dyno its hard to say.

I have never heard of using the stock springs with the Hotcam and 1.5s...never. Stock springs won't support a whole lot of lift, I'm not sure when they bind but I would change them out because even with 1.5s the hotcam is .495 lift.

The CC304 is .500/510 lift, so there's more lift there. But the hotcam is bigger in terms of duration and therefore should make more power in almost every situation.

I have 100 pound springs in it, but I read somewhere...

stockers will work with the Hotcam and 1.5 rockers but almost maxed.

Heck the LT4 springs that come in the hotcam kit are barely adequate for the hotcam w/ 1.6s. That's the biggest mistake GM made is I think the hotcam needs more spring than that.

I agree with what you're saying, but even with crap conditions, one would think that he would be trapping higher than 101mph with the LT4 HC setup.
