hotcam with stock springs?

I just got a killer deal on an LT4 hotcam, so I picked it up. I was thinking about installing it soon, but I don't have valvesprings yet to match. If I ran that cam on stock valvespprings, would I be asking for trouble?

Don't run it. The stock springs are barely good enough for the stock cam and you will most likely float. Find a set of Lt4 springs.

I would also recommend replacing the valve stem seals, theyr cheap and it only takes a minute or two per valve.

you trying to do a cam swap in the car or is this part of a rebuild? In either case stock springs won't cut it, but if you already have the heads off then get a VJ on them with new hardware. LT4 springs at least, you can pick them up for less than $50.

Does not want.

Don't be cheap, spend $30-40 for some valve springs.

I was just trying to cut corners.

I just bought a hotcam from the FS section, and I wanted to stab it in when I got it. Later on, I was gonna get a set of used heads, swap on some LT4 springs, and port match it to my intake manifold.

IF the stock springs won't cut the mustard, than I definatley will do the cam and springs at the same time.

I would totally buy those from you, but I want to get them NOW. I just found out tonight I am off work tommorrow and all weekend, so I have 3 days of wrench turning time. I haven't had that in 6+ months.

I'm gonna go to the local speed shop tommorrow with a printout of my hotcam specs and have them set me up with some decent springs.

NEXT QUESTION: If I install stiffer valvesprings this weekend, and leave the rest of the valvetrain rock stock, am I gonna bend pushrods, or overstress my timing chain?

if I understand your question correctly, you're only going to get the springs done in 3 days? you should be able to change the cam, timing chain, push rods and valve springs in 3 day, in my opinion

Not something you ever want to do once you start doing internal engine work.

I'm installing headers today, and if I can......valvesprings.

My cam hasn't arrived yet, or I would install it too. I think they guy shipped it today.

Alright guys, tell me what you think about this. I went to the local speedshop today, and picked up a set of LUNATI valvesprings.

seat press. 108
open press 339
coil bind 1.060
.630" max lift
.462 rate

Do you think those are good for an LT4 hotcam? Are they too overkill? They were only $60 bux, and the guy at the shop told me he thought they were good for that cam.
