Hotcam kit

Hey everyone, I was looking into possibly purchasing the GM Hotcam kit from Summit which includes the cam, valve springs, retainers, keepers, and 1.6 roller rockers. My question is does anyone know if these rockers are self-aligning or non self-aligning? Thanks for any help offered.

Someone else will have to answer your question, however if the kit doesn't include guide plates and hardened pushrods, you would have to get those separately since Non-SA rrs require them. JMHO

Re: Hotcam kit

BTW, if I were you, I'd opt for the small crane cam 210/224 or maybe an SLP cam 218/224 or some thing in that range (if you want more mid-range and top while maintaining good low-end TQ. Good drivability, hardly any lope, good idle, easy tune, etc. JMHO

Many have the Hot Cam, which is a good choice, I do believe it is single pattern cam, something like 218/218 and with the exhaust being a restriction on stock LT1 heads, I believe having more duration and lift on the exhaust side would be beneficial. I admit that I am far from being an expert on this. Just giving you my opinion.

The hotcam is daul patern 218/228 @ 0.05" with 0.525" lift for both valves with 1.6 ratio rockers and ground on 112 LSA. Those rockrs in the kit are self aligning.

Re: Hotcam kit

Right you are then: If it is 218/228 it dually. How do you like the 227? I have that cam on my 97SS and I like it.

It's very docile for the daily driver and it make the 4200 lb beast feels much lighter, very torquey

218/228 .525/.525 with 1.6 rockers. They are self aligning.

Re: Hotcam kit

The conversion in a '96 LT1 Vette (which means A-4) with stock exhaust netted 310RWHP (for me on a Dyno-Jet).

A nearly identical '96 GS (Hotcam, with the exception of Hooker shorties, manual tranny of course, and Meziere waterpump) did 336RWHP on the same day, same dyno.
We both did a half-dozen tuning runs so the numbers are solid.

The Hotcam is great if you want a "boost" and don't want to sacrifice any driveability. The cam (properly tuned with LT1 Edit) is hardly noticeable. If you want to REALLY impress your friends then turn to Lloyd Elliot or Advanced Induction. But there is a price.
