hotcam on high mile LT1?

would u guys be opposed to a hotcam kit on a 140k LT1? It passed compression and leakdown tests like its a brand new motor, and maitenance has always been done ahead of time (2500 mile oil changes).
car was never really beat on, and was stock until just this weekend.
so, if we do the cam-install PERFECT, there should be no problems. I just more or less want a little more oomph, but don't want to blow it up (not yet).

i have a 383 in the works, but it will not be done for probably 2 more years, but if i did blow it up, i could use my heads/hotcam kit and drive it IF i had to.

so, are u guys opposed to doing such a small cam on a healthy, but somewhat old LT1?

Roll of the dice from what I have heard. I think it really depends on wha the cam bearings look like one the stocker is out. Mine were shot at 70K when I was doing my LE2 install. My #1 rod was almost shot too.

Now I almost done with my fresh 355 LE2. There is no way my engine would have accepted a new cam on those worn bearings. Dont be surprised if during tear down something rears its ugly head, that is what happened to me.

yeah, on one side im like....go for it, its healthy and running fine, i just have to be careful

the other side im like.....no, something will screw up and then im screwed and the money would be better spent in my 383

but, i want to have some fun while the 383 is in the works

I cammed and beat the hell out of my 97 with 110k miles. I'd do it.

Probably wouldn't say that if you had broken your car you know what I am saying.

Ya the only thing that went after this was the transmission. I'd have done it again knowing the dangers. It's all about a clean install and the care of the motor up until the point of the cam swap.

This is a fair statement but you do have to take into consideration the condition of existing parts.

the only thing im worried about is the cam bearing, i have faith that everything else should be in pretty decent shape since it has perfect maitenance records and everything else.
I have taken that into account, and which is why i decided on a smaller cam such as the hot-cam

Make sure you do a clean installation, that will play a big part. The Hotcam should be alot gentler on the engine as well.

Same here, and it's still running strong.

debating between the hotcam, or maybe the crane 227, crane doesnt look too much bigger, but it would be rougher on parts.
Any cams similar to the hotcam that would yield slightly more power?

right now, hotcam does look like the best bet tho
