Hotcam Cons
Hotcam Cons
I have read a million posts about how the Lt4 hotcam is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Never anything bad about it.
Does anybody have anything negative to say about it?
Everything has a downfall. What is the downfall of the
Hotcam kit?

Some say it doesnt make enough power. If you are going through the trouble to do a cam you might as well do one that will give you more power. Just my opinion.

I have been running mine for a year now with stock heads. My only complaint about it is I kinda wish I went bigger considering the car is not quite a daily driver. It still gets good gas mileage and a nice increase in HP. I think this cam would be killer for the daily driver and some ported heads. I am still on stock heads.

1st complaint - Although it isn't required, U HAVE TO HAVE programming to get that thing to run right. My car runs like a turd when i punch it from a roll, and im rich as hell
2nd complaint - The vacuum is a little different so the brakes feel a little different.
3rd complaint - The fans are running ALL THE TIME right now.
Most of these aren't really that big of complaints. I know that TUNING will straighten out all of these. Just make sure u do programming if u get the cam.

Too small. It has been given nicknames like the "Hot Crap" for a reason.
Unless you are trying to pass emissions, or desperately need to squeeze an extra 1-2MPG out of your car, I'd go with something bigger. Hell, even my CC306 is very streetable with the right tuning.

I agree programming is almost a must for this cam. Without it, the car idled like crap, and was hardly any faster then before the kit. Sucked the gas down too. After programming...My 1/4mile improved by about .5 and 5mph. Also mpg improved a lot. It was a night and day difference.

I would say a con for me is the lack of top end. However I have hit 110 a few times in the 1/4 on stock heads which is nothing to be ashamed & it does still retain the LT1's infamous low end power. I guess there really isn't a con in my book. If you want more then you buy more. This is really all I need unless I am competition racing. But I'm not.

my xe230/236 is mild w/ a mail order tune, still get 15 city, 23 hwy....moral of the story: there are better cams out there if you want to stay mild...

The HotCam is a good starter cam plus all the stuff that you get with it. I had my HotCam for a good two years before I changed it out and got something bigger.
I do agree that programming is a must with this cam and just about any cam that you put in.

There really arent any cons to it, but you can get a better cam kit from Combination Motorsports for only a few more dollars. Just something to think about.
