hotcam, 503

Im looking for the most streetable, fuel efficient, and cost effective cam. I have limited too the hotcam, and cc503. I think the hotcam would win the 3 categories mentioned above, and cost effective due to the fact that I already have lt4 springs, and SA rockers. As for the effective part. W/ mods in sig, what would be my hp, and tq gainsw/ hotcam, and w/ 503? Im just looking for people w/ similar setups with the hotcam, or 503 to post some times, or hp numbers. Also lookin for some rough estimates. What kind of power if I went hotcam, and what kind if I went 503.

When I had the 503, I got 326 SAE at the rear wheel (I have an A4). Very good cam, streetable, no problems. I recommend it.

That said, you can't go wrong with the hotcam either. It's a proven performance bang for the buck pkg. In terms of power, I don't think it'll be all that far off the 503.

The CC503 will make more power over the Hotcam. However, it is up to you if it is worth the extra cost to beef up the valvetrain a bit more.

CC 227 JMHO---Whatever you get make sure that the springs will handle the cam with good margin of safety, esp. with SA RRs.

I think it puts you back to where people putting 1.6 rockers on the LT1 cam and spring set are. They are on the edge and as the springs fatigue they start losing power on the top with valve float. Why not buy the Hotcam spring set? They probably don't cost anymore than the LT4 spring did. Cheap insurance.

Does the computer have to get retuned with those cams are will it run fine without a tune.

Anytime you put an aftermarket cam in, you should get the PCM tuned. The Hotcam is the exception, you can get away with a stock tune, but it is still advisable to get one. The CC503 will need a PCM tune.

I love my 503. But as stated before you will have to beef up the valve train. Your LT4 valve springs will not work with the 503.
