Hotcam is too small for 383. research dynamic compression

i think there was a member on here that used the hotcam in his 383 and made decent numbers. i am asking because i am in need of a rebuild and i can get a pretty good deal on a 383 short block. i already have the hot cam and le1 heads ready to go. i figure i can upgrade the cam and the valvetrain later on. i know i won't acheive the maximum potential of the motor but at least i would have a nice bottom end to start with. this will be my daily for a year.

I have the CC305 in mine and from what I understand it's very similar to the hotcam and I have made very good numbers. I am running AFR 190s for the heads though, but seems to be more streetable and easier to pass emissions here in Houston than the more powerful CC306. Just my 2 cents.

One of my friends had a LT1 corvette with a 383 and a hotcam with stock heads back a long time ago....it sounded stock and was slower than stock....

Its going to want more air than that hotcam has to give.....more duration

i wish i could find the member(s) on here that have run this combo with pretty good results. the reason i am asking is my motor is in need of a rebuild and i already have the hotcam kit available with a set of le1 heads. i figured i could just build the 383 now and maybe later on upgrade the heads, cam, and valve train.

i know but i don't want to spend the money on a 355, even though it would be cheaper, if i have to pull the motor anyways. Choices....

There wouldn't be anything wrong with running a hot cam with a 383. It's not going to make sick power, but it'll have good midrange and good streetable powerband. Its really not a big deal to upgrade the cam later if you want more...

i would get something a little bigger at least. Sell the cam on here or ebay and buy something else used if money is an issue. Its not going to run all that great, the 383 will want more air. I would go gm 846 222/230 (i think) or the cc 503 224/230 for the small side and something like a cc306 or gm 847 for a medium sized cam for that many cubes.
