Hot cam vs other cams

The hotcam kit is by far the cheapest "kit". My question is how many tengths would I lose with going for the hotcam opposed to another similiar cams(305, 224/230, custom grind)? Is it only gonna be .1 or less OR more like .2 to lots more. I am planning on running long tubes with true duals.

Thumbs up

I think the "HotCam" is a great cam. I had one in my 93 and I probably would have still had it if I didnt have to rebuild at that time. With the right combonation of parts ,the Hotcam will run low 12's to high 11's . My best with the hot cam was 12.14@110.6mph with a 2800 vig, stock heads w/ stock valves, mac headers w/ cutout, and 4.10 gear. Every car is different ,so just make a pass and see what happens. Good luck.

Are emmisions a problem?
The hotcam has been proven to be a great cam, but if you dont have to pass the test, i'd think bigger for sure!

Very good point.

The Hot Cam Kit is an excellent kit if u don't want to have emission hassles. A simple programming on the hot cam and u can pass emissions all day long. Plus, I have seen people with LT4 heads and a Hot Cam Kit with lots of bolt ons running mid 11s all day long.

I know a bunch of people that went hot cam and decided to go bigger, but not many people went bigger and dropped to the hot cam. If emissions isn't a problem, search the board for the highest cam you can have without killing gas mileage and affect driveability.

Bang for the buck you cannot beat the Hotcam! I too am thinking of going with more cam but I am going to try some more gear and I have swapped to a 3500 vig first. If I can go 11's I will leave my Hotcam in but it has been over a year and I still like my little cam. Driveabiltiy and everything is great. Speed is addictive you will always want to go faster. I think if you have all the parts to go fast already then buy a bigger cam but if you are modding a little at a time and money plays a big part like most of us then the Hotcam is your answer.
