hot cam kit & stock manifolds

finally have the dreaded intake leak so I'm planning on adding a hot cam kit and PCM programming while the intake is off.... car has 60,000 miles on it
I WANT to hear that lope in the idle and maintain stock appearance
Will that cam work with stock manifolds?
Will I maintain driveability with that cam?

Is it a good idea to replace other parts while the front of the engine is off?
like water pump, timing chain, opti, etc?

remember, car is 100% stock, nothing has ever been replaced (except tires),
have never had a single problem with it ('til the intake started leaking)
and it dynoed 285 at the wheels

should you try the search button. but yes, it works with stock manifold and you should replace opti, wp while you are at it. you wont hear much lope, it will give you a slight gain in HP. i think you would like it. just my .02

It will work with stock manifolds, but realize you're leaving a lot of power on the table by choking out the cam with manifolds.

I disagree with TDM, mine loped noticeably, and had compliments on it all the time.

Re: hot cam kit & stock manifolds

I pulled 339 RWHP with the hotcam and SLP LT4 manifolds. Not sure if shorties would have made much improvement, and LTs just weren't in the schema.

However, the SLP LT4 manifolds are better than stock LT1 manifolds, but they aren't LTs.

Re: hot cam kit & stock manifolds

my car is #76..... heard that the first 100 cars in '96 had extrude honed exhaust manifolds but I don't know how true it is
if it is, my hotcam will obviously benefit more

real happy to see 339 hp with near-stock manifolds..... hopefully I can get close to that

thanks for the quick replies guys!

Re: hot cam kit & stock manifolds

Fixing an intake manifold leak is pretty easy, but installing a cam is like 5x more work.
