Thumbs up Horsepower guess?

I just recently purchased a 97 z28 M6 w/ 100,000 mi. I'm assuming the mods the previous owner made put the car at about 340-350 hp (flywheel). I have walked and pulled away from an 03 Mach 1 and to my surprise a new GTO (although he may have called it quits as we were at about 115-120+) He drove by with a thumb up. Do you think my hp assumption is close to accurate or maybe even a little underrated? My mods list is:

-BBK headers
-Moroso Cold Air Induction
-No Catalytic converters
-Throttle body bypass
-Flowmaster muffler
-MSD wires
-Skip shift eliminator
-02 simulator

Re: Horsepower guess?

-BBK headers - good
-Moroso Cold Air Induction - good
-No Catalytic converters - ok
-Throttle body bypass - good
-Flowmaster muffler - ok
-MSD wires - na
-Skip shift eliminator - na
-02 simulator - na

There's no way you'll be at those #s unless you've got a real factory freak. You could probably pull some mid 13s out of that thing with some traction, low 13s with drs.

The gtos are too heavy to really make good use of the LS1, most tests I have seen are in the same area as the LT1 Camaro.

The Mach 1 could pull low to mid 13s with a decent driver, so one should be able to beat you, but remember, na dohc is a lot harder to drive well than our ohv 5.7s, so it's no surprise that folks with LT1s are still winning against them. Put me behind the wheel of a manual mach1 and I'm sure I could drive it to a good 15 flat.

A good RWHP gues would be around 295-305. I beat a stock A4 LS1 with my mods, so you never know.

Notice he said 340-350 at the FLYWHEEL, which if you consider 15% drivetrain loss, would figure out to 289-297.5 RWHP, which i would say could be a safe bet if the car is running well.

Yes, definately it's the flywheel I'm talking about. No way possible that I'm putting that to the ground. I'm looking either a LT4 kit or a supercharger. Which do you recommend?

If you've got the cash:

CC306
Lloyd Elliot heads
New springs, roller rockers, retainers, etc. - crane and comp both make good stuff

After that you'll probably be looking for suspension mods and some tires that will hook.

I don't know my hp but it took most of what I have in my sig to run with small bolt-on LS1 Vettes. I haven't run a Mach1 or GTO but I assume that it would be a close race with what I have. I am talking on the street from a slow roll or whatever. At the track, traction has alot to do with who wins.

Re: Horsepower guess?

You are not at 340-350 flywheel hp.

You are most likely at 285-290 rwhp. Considering that the drivetrain loss of the M6 is only about 10.5%, you are at about 320 fwhp.

With your mods, you will totally smoke either a MACH 1 or a GTO.

Yeah, do what he said. LT4 kit, isn't that great. For the same $$ you can be much faster. As for FI, that is really expensive. If you are planning on using the stock bottom end, you should only run about 6 PSI boost. And if I were to spend $3500 on a supercharger I would forge the bottom end so that I could take advantage of higher boost levels. Just stick to a good heads and cam package.

Re: Horsepower guess?

I'm selling my LT4 heads and intake that have less than 3k miles on them. The heads already have Crane dual coil .600 lift springs. LMK

What did you tell it that your weight is? Also, did you calibrate it?

I don't have any faith in G-tech's. The trap speed is always too high also.
