Horsepower?

Ok so i just got back from the Dyno shop.

Long tube headers with full 3 inch exaust and flowmasters. Moroso cold air intake, Electric water pump, blah blah full bolt on LT1 with hot cam kit. Custom tuning. Ive got a auto, she put down 340 RWHP and 325 RWTQ so is this good? I was wondering if this is decent through an auto with my mods.

340 sounds good to me with that setup, stock bottom end and stock heads?

Re: Horsepower?

Stock heads stock bottom end. Honistly man im so disapointed, i just raced my buddies SS ls1 which has alot of mods aswell but no cam, no anything like that and he is dead even with me and thats if i get a good hit on the rpms before the rev limiter kicks in. Im thinking i need to move the limiter up to 6700 and shift at around 6500 to fully take advantage of the cam. What do u guys think?

Re: Horsepower?

I think your hp # looks great. The tq # for an LT1 looks a little low for that much hp. My '94 6 spd has everything but the cam and made 274whp/309wtq on the motor. I wouldn't be disappointed if I were you in the dyno #s. The 1/4 mi is also a little slow. Maybe just more practice or drag radials. I recently ran 13.8 at 101 and had a crappy run(spun too much, clutch is slipping, hot temps,...)

Re: Horsepower?

bolton LS1's will be as fast if not faster than most cam only LT1's, theres nothing you can do about it. And 6500 would be out of the powerband of your car, post up the dyno sheet so we can see when the shift points should be.

Re: Horsepower?

some ls1 cars had 350 from the factory. completely stock. there were people dynoing at almost 350 to the wheels in some cases. it's extremely under-rated.

those are good numbers though for a those mods.

Re: Horsepower?

Well honistly its rather lame that an LT1 with a cam can bairly keep up with a stock LS1 but i guess thats the nature of the LS1s 15 degree head. I really thought that the LT4 hot cam would have more ***** but it really isnt that big of a cam. Well thanks for all the info, im going to keep on modding the car and then eventually im getting myself a 396 with afr heads n cam. That will definitly put a nice damper on anyones ls1 lol.

Dont go crazy building some monster high maintance motor. You need to spend a little bit of $ in the heads, and that will make all the differance in the world. The hot cam is a great all around cam. With the head work done I know you will realize that. What gears do you have? And HELLO if you have a stock stall that is your first problem. A 3200 stall with a tranny cooler will drop your times half a second. And put a cut out before those crapmaster mufflers.
Steve

P.s. 340 rwhp out of a hotcam only car is the highest I have every seen. My 96 heads and hot cam z28 dynoed 340rwhp and 331 rwtq. Everyone at the dyno day was very suprised to see my car carry 340 hp to 6400 rpms with the hotcam. All I am tring to say is you need some supporting mods before you start stomping ls1's. And lets all be honest, that is why I love the LT1, it is always going to be the under dog.

Re: Horsepower?

340 is a decent number with the hotcam. It's a very small cam. Step up to something bigger and you'd see better results. I've seen the CC503 push cam only LT1s to 112+ mph traps. The best I've seen with the hotcam is 109.

Get those heads ported and see an easy 360+ rwhp with a dynotune. Step up the cam and you could see ~385 with something like the 503.

Re: Horsepower?

340 is good but that 325 does sound low... my car with all the mods(in sig) I have dynoed 285rwhp and 330rwtq with a tune from Jeff Creech

Re: Horsepower?

Here is the thing, i have 500 lbs stripped out of my car, and i have 340 to the tire. My buddies 99 SS has full exaust with long tubes, cold air intake, and a dyno tune. Not sure of his numbers and its 6 speed. But we were dead even on the freeway. So i honistly cant see how the hell my 340 rwhp 500 lb weight reduced camaro is the same as a SS in 99 with minor mods and a 6 speed lol.

well if it was on the highway then you were up in the higher RPMs which means the LS1 will pull harder than an LT1, but from a dig it might be a different story

Re: Horsepower?

A cammed lt1 should spank a ls1 ss if its stock. Hell i beat a ls1 ss by four car lengths all night long with mild bolt on's(287rwhp/326tq)

He said the ls1 wasnt stock though. Something sounds fishy here. To me your numbers sound high if anything, not low, i wouldnt be dissapointed. Ive never saw the dyno numbers for my brothers ws6, but he has lid,Lt's,gmmg, and smooth bellows through an auto and it doesnt feel like no 350+ rwhp. I guess i dont know what im talking about just confusing my self to which point im trying to make.
