horrendous backfiring!

I've been battling this problem for awhile now. I've replaced the opti, plugs, all wires, ignition coil and O2's. After installing the wires I disconnected the battery overnight inhopes the codes would clear and everything would run correctly (assuming something I changed would have fixed the problem) I don't have access to a code reader at this time. I'm aware that in order to find the exact problem I'll have to have the codes read, but until then has ANYONE had this same problem?

Any time I give it the slightest bit of gas it backfires. This leads me to believe it's running pig rich, but it does this (the backfiring) from the second I give the car gas after turning the ignition. The backfiring was so repetitive it lead me to think I plugged a wire in the incorrect firing mode, but as I installed the new wires I installed them one at a time (as I removed an old wire I plugged the new wire in its place)

Any ideas? What other steps can I take until I have access to a scanning tool?

Mine does it when I'm coasting and just BARELY touch the gas pedal. No clue what's causing it??

Okay I drove it for 20 minutes and I suppose the computer completely corrected itself. It's pulling like a bat out of hell again!

So it just went away? You didn't do anything else to it(besides what you posted) to try and fix it? Or was this just after you replaced the plugwires?

Re: horrendous backfiring!

The wires were the last thing I replaced. I changed the plugs, O2's, coil and opti a couple weeks ago and the problem was still there. After leaving the car disconnected overnight it still ran bad yesterday, but once I drove it for 20-30 minutes the backfiring just went away and all the power came back.

Don't ask me...
