Hooking up A/F ration gauge
Hooking up A/F ration gauge
Ok I don't know if this is the right forum for this so if it isn't someone please move it. I just got a A/F ratio gauge in the mail and don't know what wire to hook the sending wire to. I have a 97 Formula and the gauge has three wires, a switched ignition, a ground and a sending wire. Which wire coming out of the O2 sensor should I hook it to???
You want to tap into the vehicle harness or the PCM pin. Do not tap directly into the stainless steel sensor wiring. The PCM pins are:
C8 - Purple wire - passenger side pre-cat sensor
C20 - Purple/white wire - driver's side pre-cat sensor
Some people have run both wires to a single-pole/double-throw switch, allowing either sensor to be connected to the A/F gauge.
When you get all done, you might question whether it is worth it, since you will basically have a psychedelic light show in closed loop, and a very general indication that its "rich" at WOT. Other then confirming total failure of the sensor, or some part of the control system, its not going to tell you much.

Just a quick question, how would I wire it up so I could use a singlepull/double throw switch??
I know that narrow band 02's are pretty much useless but I got a killer deal on this one and couldn't pass it up. I actually have a wideband hooked up to the car right now whice belongs to a friend. I am going to use the wideband to tune the car and just have the cool light show as somewhat of a back up so I can know if I go really lean/rich.

I've got an Autometer AFR gage idiot light. (Also a Dynojet Wideband). But, I did the DPDT switch wire arangement (an idea from LJ). I spliced into each of the two (Rt and Left bank) front O2 sensor harness (purple wire). Just wire each sensor wire to each of the switch Rt/ Left poles. It's easy. I can switch from Rt to Left while trucking down the road. But, for tuning, a wideband is needed (at least that's what I learned). Hope this helps.
Yeah that does help, thanks a lot! I will for sure use a wideband to tune it, I wouldn't rely on the narrowband to tune my nitrous car. Thanks for all the help guys, especially you Injuneer!!!
Just splice into the O2 front left & right purple wire @ the connector. It's easy. Use some shrink wrap on the splice so it is weather tight. I did this on my 97. Route the Rt side wire over the tunnel and avoid hot spots. Most Camaro manuals will have the wiring diagram. (97SS 383 - D1 - M6)
