Hooker Shories better then stock?

I'm looking for headers that are CA Smog legal because I don't want to mess with it. I know everyone says that shorties aren't very good, but they have to be better then stock right?

Yeah, ANY headers flow better than stock manifolds.

It's not that shorties aren't any good, longtubes are just optimal.

yeah

u'd gain 8-10 from shorties when u gain from 20-30 even close to 40

but shorties are a improvement over stock... (cast manifolds suck)

not to jump in on your thread here, but are shorties and/or midlengths considerably easier to install? Do you have plug wire burning problems just as often? thx

it is easier...

find a pic of a LT, and compare a shortie/midlength to it

With shorties and midlengths, there generally aren't as many y-pipe fitment issues as there are with LTs. I'd say go with some MAC midlengths, they come with a y-pipe.

Hooker shorties give better power than stock manifolds but for best results it helps to modify them a bit. The openings in the collector are a bit smaller than the diameter of the y pipe so people generally open them up a little with a grinder or a dremel. They don't give huge power increases but they do give better performance at mid and high rpms and they keep underhood temps lower.
I have had no plug wire burning problems with mine.

Common be serious. Shorties can get you like 20-30 depending on make longtubes are like 36-60 depending on the make. I think FLP has it on lock.

I think he needs a part with a CA CARB number. I am pretty sure even the mac mids (although it has sensor bungs, egr, etc) are not 50 state.

You could probably use them and find a shop that was cool with having the working fittings in place (and not ask for a number).

I went with the SLPs. Same logic. Gotta be better than stock, gotta be legal. CA SMOG

60 horsepower from headers? A minimum of 36 hp from LTs? I think you need to be serious! MAYBE you could get 50 hp if you're running a 396 with a huge solid roller cam and massively ported heads.

Like was said earlier...open up the collectors about 1/4 inch all the way around and youll see around a 15hp gain with the Hooker shorties.
