Hooker LT's to duel exhuast ending behind the front seats?? good or bad idea??
I am looking at buying a pair of Hooker long tubes and just going to a exhaust shop and having 3" piping made from the 3" collector on each header to just behind the back on the front seats, running a true duel exhaust ofcourse. I have seen a few people on here with it done but was questioning it because my engine rebuilding teach was telling me that he had that exact same setup on a older camaro and he had a huge problem with getting light headed because of the exhaust gasses gettin into the car. WILL THIS BE A PROBLEM ON A 93 Z28? Also it is going to be a stock lt1 with ported heads and a street/strip cam, will there be any back pressure problems with doing this?

3 things to consider....
1. A 93 camaro is now 12 years old, seals start getting old and begin to degrade. You may have exhaust fumes enter the cab, but then again you may not.. I wouldnt risk it...
2. You may notice some low end power losses with a setup like this. Is this a totally stock car with the exception of the longtubes and exhaust? Again I dont think I would go with this kind of a setup, unless it was a track only car with a totally built motor that needed to live at high RPMs, and low end torque wasnt an issue to consider.
3. Is this going to be a street driven car? If so, its gonna be LOUD! And I do mean really LOUD! It may just be me, but I get tired of even just an open cutout that is located just behind the rear seats... Again another reason why I dont think that I would consider something like this...
One setup that I have considered is however a true dual setup that utilizes an "X" pipe and a couple of flowmasters that used over axle pipes but dumped right there after the axles, but before the rear valence. It would sound mean as hell and offer a nice gain over the stock single pipe system, but also wouldnt drone in the car. Something I hate during long drives to Vegas and what not.

Well, i'm acutally looking at going with the joe overton stage 2 cam with the LE 2 heads, so yeah the cars gonna lose a lot of torque either way but im not to worried about it cuz there's no way its gonna be as bad as the torque curve on my daily driver (99 civic si), u gotta rev that thing out to 5 in every gear to keep up with traffic. For the Loudness factor, my theory is the louder the better, lol, i love the sound of a cammed v8 running open headers... My main concern was the exhaust getting into the car issue, i know a kid with a 71 chevelle and he's got his exhaust dumping out on the sides right before the front seats when i ride in his car there is never exhaust fumes getting into his car, but the obvious is that car is a little bit different than a 93 z28, so when u were talking about the seals, were u talking about the window seals?? does that mean that i if my windows are down the exhaust will for sure be leaking into the cab?? Do u have any pictures of your flowmaster x pipe setup? i wanted to get a idea of how that looks under the car cuz thats definetly something i'd consider.
Re: Hooker LT's to duel exhuast ending behind the front seats?? good or bad idea??
If the windows are down, then you will most likely have fumes coming into the cab. As for the X-pipe, I dont have any pictures, but you could just explain what you want done.. As for my car, I am forced to run a single exhaust pipe because of my suspension pieces. Otherwise I would definitly be running the setup I described to you...
Good luck!
