Good oil filters?

What's good, whats bad? Does it really make a difference if you're changing it every 3 to 5k miles?

edit: I maybe should have posted this in the general forum, but I do have an LT1 car so I dunno....

Re: Good oil filters?

Best - K&N HP-2002 or the 3002 (longer version) price $9-10 ea. Or the Mobil 1, (rumored to be the same thing as the K&N just different label)

Worst? - Fram. Glued on paper end caps for one thing, I've heard many stories of them failing.

For a daily driver changing oil every 3000 or so the AC delcos are a very good filter for the price.

Since I change my oil once a year or every 3000 miles anymore and race it most of that time I spend the extra $5 for the K&N. Its a sweeeet filter

The m1's are not the same as the K@N's. They filter a little better but don't flow nearly as well. You want flow if you drive your car hard alot because the filter won't have to switch into bypass mode as often. Plus the K@N's have that 1" nut on the bottom to make removal alot easier on our cars where a regular wrench gets kinda awkward.

Re: Good oil filters?

I use the oversized ACDelco filter and have been very happy with it for the last 2 years or so. You can get the stock size or a slightly bigger size thats used on the corvettes. I highly recommend them.

I've not used the M1 filter, like I said I just heard they were the same, I guess they arent. Sounds like the K&N is the better choice though so thats good. Oh, and that 1" nut on the K&N is worth the extra $5 alone

Re: Good oil filters?

my last oil change I switched to AMSOIL...both filter and oil just becuase a friend of mine is now a dealer.

However, prior to that I've used the Fram duragaurd...for the past 8 years without any issues, along with MOBIL 1 oil.

Re: Good oil filters?

The best is K&N, but since Summit sometimes wont stock it for LT1's, I use Napa's Gold series or AC Delco.

Re: Good oil filters?

I use the K&N HP-3002 and notice that my oil stays cleaner longer, I think they are worth the $.
