Hooker LT vs MAC mids
Hooker LT vs MAC mids
Hey guys, i am debating between the Hooker long tubes and the Mac mid lenghts. I know the Hookers have the most gain but they are kinda expencive. The macs are more what i can afford. Is there a big diffrence between the 2?
Re: Hooker LT vs MAC mids
At first i wanted long tubes but after reading reviews and stuff over headers. I decided to get mac mid's. From what i read you'll get pretty much the same gains as longtubes but it'll be a diffrent feal through the powerband. Longtubes are supposed to take some low end torque and hit harder in the upper rpm's so i would suspect that mid's would be smoother throughtout i guess?
I'm going with mac's becasue i can still have emission hookups and all that junk and be able to lower my car and now worry as much about dragging.
I think im buying the mac's next week so i'll tell you how they are.

Re: Hooker LT vs MAC mids
I've had both sets that you wanted to know about and I sold the macs VERY quick. they leaked like crazy from every possible place including the collectors. And no it wasn't the gaskets or the bolts because I reused the same bolts (stage 8 locking) and the same gaskets (felpro 1406? I think) and the jet hot long tubes are FLAWLESS. No leaks anywhere and nice gains over the macs. Course I have ported heads now and didn't then...
BTW: The macs burnt my wires (2 of them). Jet hots aren't touching. Spend the extra $$$ on jet hots.

Re: Hooker LT vs MAC mids
I have had both and if you want more power definetly go with the long tubes. The macs give a very noticable power increase, give great access to the spark plugs, and don't scrape the ground. The hooker long tubes give a great power increase, scrape the ground frequently, sound awesome, and require a special y-pipe. The macs come with the y-pipe.

First search this subject up the rear. There are some 5+ page threads on it. But basically I was once in your shoes and figure if I was going to go through the trouble why not do it once and do it right. Spend a little extra and go the extra mile. My sig shows the route I went and simply put, a couple days after I put the Hooker LT's on, I raced a Ford Lightning SVT and won, THE END.

Jet Hot LT's=$550 w/o emissions and the 02 bungs already on
02 extensions (2)=$25 each
mufflex (or equivalent) y-pipe=$250
4" to 3" spacer=$25
welding for spacer to catback=$10-$20 depending on where you take it
new gaskets i.e. felpro 1406? (I think) and collector gaskets DO NOT USE THE SUPPLIED GASKETS UNLESS YOU LIKE DEALING WITH LEAKS.
new header bolts i.e. stage 8 locking or similar product
There you go. Make sure you get the headers to your specs i.e. with or without EGR or AIR holes/fitting. I removed both systems myself (costs nothing) and had them tuned out.
good luck!
