hooker exhaust question

hey... i was looking at the hooker catback for my 96. the dual cat kits are like $286 and the single cat is $276, but the i pipe is longer for the single cat cars, why is it less money?

i wanted to eventually switch the single cat headers, and instead of getting the $286 catback and having to fab up an S pipe in the future, can i just get the single cat one and cut off the s pipe to install it on stock dual cat manifolds for now? i dont see why not... which also leads me to ask if what size is the y pipe opening, will the 3 inch i pipe clamp to it no problem? or is that wat the dual cat system does, does it reduce to 2.75" to connect to the y pipe?

Re: hooker exhaust question

well, you could get the single cat and cut off the s end of it
but you probably could only make it fit through a crusher clamp, in which case you would not be able to weld the s pipe back up or it would shrink right where it was connected to your dual cats

basically, the pipe is 3" everywhere except for where it connects to the cat (it's 2.75 there)
when you cut that off, you're going to make the new 3" i-pipe try to connect to your dual cat y-pipe which the y-pipe is 2.75
so, you're only choice really if you want to go this way, is to crush the 3" in pipe down to the 2.75 one (if that is possible, probably but..)
but if you do that, you're going to be left with a pipe that is 2.75 crushed that you want to weld the s part back up to when you go single cat
if i'm not being clear here, let me know
i know it was a lot of rambling
