Question Hooker or Edelbrock?

I'm looking for a cat-back and I have narrowed it down to the hooker and the edelbrock. Before anyone says anything, I don't have the cash to be spending on borla, gmmg, or any of the others in that price range. I found a few clips of the hooker cat-back, but I can only find one clip for the edelbrock. Correct me if i'm wrong but my guess is both of them will be the same as far as performance gains. So which one has a nicer sound? Any suggestions?

Re: Hooker or Edelbrock?

There will be little if any variation in performance between the two. My old catback was the Edelbrock and it did sound good, but I preferred my friends Hooker catback more. The other thing I did not like about the Edelbrock was that the thing rusted out completely in a matter of two years and the car never saw a Chicago winter and was driven seldomly by the previous owner.

I looked up as much as I could on the edelbrock and it seemed that the few people that have it or have heard it favor it over the hooker. But if it rusts that easy then I'd stay away from it because this car will see snow. Anyone have any sound clips of either the hooker or edelbrock? I went to lt1engine.com and ls1sounds.com but didn't find many lt1's with them.

Re: Hooker or Edelbrock?

From what i hear, the edelbrock has a very deep tone. I have never heard one in person and not alot of people have them. I think it also has turndown tips, which im not a big fan of but that can easily be changed. I also think it is aluminized, so that should help prevent rust, but it still will rust, especially if driven in a road salt useing state. I though about running one on mine but i guess they dont make them for dual cat camaros.

Re: Hooker or Edelbrock?

They are both aluminized systems. I'm not really worried about rust at the moment. I'm currently living in FL for school and I had an aluminized steel y-pipe installed on my maxima before I left NY and it shows no signs of rust and still looks new. I'll be moving back up to NY within a year so I'm sure that will change cause they use a ton of salt. I think the only cat-back in my price range that is stainless is the magnaflow but from listening to the exhaust clips, I think the hooker sounds much better. I'm just having a hard time finding clips of the edelbrock. The one clip I found was really distorted and the guy didn't really go WOT so I couldn't really judge it.

Actually, it is a straight tailpipe system, it looks very similar to the Flowmaster catback and they do make it for the dual cat LT1s as that is what I have and my car had the Edelbrock on it.

Re: Hooker or Edelbrock?

i love my magnaflow. the sound clips on there dont do it justice. i really havent heard a system deeper than magnaflow. hooker isnt even as deep. if i were you id go magnaflow. no regrets nor looking backs here.

Re: Hooker or Edelbrock?

I use a hooker muffler and I love the sound of it, under 2k rpms putting around its pretty quiet but after there it has a nice growl. Gets pretty loud around 3k. With my headers and removed cat it sounds great. Definitely go hooker.
