hooker catback

what is up with this catback?? I just got it put on at the muffler shop...... I have LT headers, no cat, and the hooker catback...... it sounds almost stock! I cant hear my car idle, and when I rev the engine I can barely hear it! Does this muffler need a break-in period or something?? If this is as loud as it will be, then I am definately taking this thing off!

Re: hooker catback

My Hooker along with a pipe through the cat is definitely louder than stock... I can hear it idle from inside the car... Have a friend drive it and listen to it from outside... I did that and it was louder than I thought... Don't know how much louder it will get... Mine did somewhat, but not loud enough for me and I ended up doing the pipe through the cat.

Re: hooker catback

Have you taken it for a WOT run through the gears?

If you can't tell a difference, you're deaf. The hooker really comes alive and screams above 2500. Under that it is smooth, deep, and clean... great for a daily driver. BTW, the system is good at keeping the sound inside the pipes and not resonating into the car. It is MUCH louder when you stand outside in view of the tail pipes.

Take it for a hard run with the windows down.

I thought the same thing after installing. I really couldn't tell a big difference at low rpm. It does sound good under power though.

I installed an electric cutout before the muffler. Now I can have the best of both worlds.

I have the same setup. Pacesetter LT's, no cat, ory, and hooker catback. It does sound quiet in the car, but have someone drive it around the block for you. I get compliments on it all the time, plus it doesn't make me deaf when I drive to school or work.

Re: hooker catback

I have pacesetter, orp and a Hooker catback to and I like it. I do think it got a louder during the first week of driving. I really like it now. It is definitely mean sounding and a bit loud below 1,500 or 2,000 rpm, and above that it starts to scream. I would say just try it out for a while and see how it sounds.
