Only difference is you have one less connection due to no MAF. If you have a temp sensor in the intake you my consider moving it as close to the filter as possible.

i thought the elbow was about 3.5 in wide, may be wrong
yea, tuck it into the elbow and then you have to drill a hole for your iat sensor
the best bet to give every little ounce of power is to put it as close to the filter as possible, like 994v8indfw said

i use k/n on my rs, works fine for me

also, about the iat sensor, i didn't know that lt1's had it plugged into the rubber elbow which means you don't have to drill a hole
on my rs, i had to drill a hole in the new tubing
sorry about that

on my homeade CAI I just have a big cone filter on the end of it.
I run mine down through the hole beneath where the stock air box went.

For my CAI, I use a K&N model RE-0910. It's a cylindrical filter about 3.5" x 8" or so.

it depends on your setup and how big it is
i have re-0810 on my rs
it's overkill but, you can't go big enough on an air filter
it's about 3" by 9" if i remember
it's a cylindrical filter too
i'd say use either that or wrathgrape's depending on whether you go 3" or 3.5"
if you 4", you'll have to find that yourself
