Holley Stealth Ram (HSR)

Really thinking about putting one on my lt1.

Will it fit under the cowl? Can I sand it down to fit if it doesnt?

I know it wont fit under the stock hood but I have another hood.

What kind of gains can I expect? Will I lose torque down low? Will I gain across the rpm range?

Will this be beneficial with stock heads (I will get a custom grind cam though). Seems like it has to give gains but I don't want to sacrifice power down low to make power up top if that is what this intake does. I know some intakes just shift the powerband up but don't actually make any more power. Anyone using/used it? Pictures would be appreciated of lt1 setups.

Re: Holley Stealth Ram (HSR)

Also what exactly do I need to make this work? I know that I need L98 fuel rails and the intake and runners. Do I NEED software/injectors etc. or can I get by without that stuff. My setup is pretty mild and a small cam no head work etc. street car only no track. Can I get by with a dyno tune or even a mail-order tune and nothing but fuel rails and runners/manifold?

The stock manifold is very good. It only limits the LT1 if you have a wild head/cam package or run high boost or lots of juice. With your set-up it will cost a lot to make it work and you will most likely notice nothing.

I have one that I'm still working on for my lt1.
I have over 600 dollars in it so far and I am doing the welding myself. For a max effort I personally think that it will be great. It is not however a budget mod. If you pay someone to do the work it would probably cost you 2 grand. For 2 grand I could think of alot of other places to spend money.

Could you elaborate on the "welding". I'm not sure what you mean. I can get this manifold for around 200 w/runners so I consider it a budget mod as long as I don't have to fab anything.

What exactly do you mean by manifold with runners? I always heard it refered to as plenum and base.
You have to mill the water crossover off, then you have to weld up all of the bolt holes and them drill new ones on a different angle, most of the holes are not in the same locations as the origional holes. Once you have the new holes drilled you have to spot face the holes on the top. so the bolt heads will have a flat surface to tighten against. THen I would add some welding rod to the rear china wall (where it meets the back of the block) This will eliminate oil leaks.
If you have gotten this far, if you plan on making power much past 6k you will need to mill the runners down where they meet the bottom of the plenum. and weld the plenum to the base. At stock height the manifold will not make power past about 6000-6100.
Hope this helps.

I thought the SR was based off of the LT1 manifold.

If it's anything like the Lingenfelter ram, you have to take off the intake to get to the injectors. Also, the Lingenfelter ram is a torque builder but not the way to go for a high hp application.

Re: Holley Stealth Ram (HSR)

it is more like a tunnel ram.. to get it to fit under the hood you may have to cut up the back of the cowl and will probaly not fit under a stock hood but if its is on a cowl induction hood or ram air type it should fit The manifold should make power up high, I don't think TPI guys would use this manifold if it only pulls to the same RPM as the Tune Port

I modified a few of them to work on LT1's... you have to cut and section the back of the intake to clear the cowel, then weld it back up. Good amount of work in them, don't remember how much it cost for the last one I did.

FWIW the longer runners will help you a bunch, it's not just a LT1 intake copy. You will gain TQ thru the whole curve.

How does this compare to the Super Ram intake manifold? IIRC the Super Ram helped TREMENDOUSLY with TQ across the board and only lost out to the LT1 intake in HP after 5400rpm or so, and with further modding such as heads and cam, it respoded even better than the LT1 intake.

Shorter runners than the SuperRam so it doesn't lose out as early.

Yeah, I do like those longer runners for the added torque. It is exactly what I am looking for. I saw an article where the miniram only made 4hp over the stealth ram but the stealth ram made almost 30 more lbft more torque and both hp and tq peaked sooner. This was on an L98 though but this intake truly seems like the best of both worlds. I hope I can fit it in the budget. Makes me wonder why so many people are spending over 600 on the LT4.

Yeah, I was half hoping (lol I knew better) thinner motor mounts and shaving the top might just be enough. I am very interested in this setup Bret. If you could send me a PM on how much it would be to do the bolt holes/cut and weld the back of the manifold. Do you or anyone on the board have a picture of the end result of the cut manifold? e-mail is performancev8@yahoo.com

thanks
