Is this hole supposed to be here?

Some questions. I took my air filter off the LT1, and noticed a hole.
1. Is this hole supposed to be here? Because I don't have anything that plugs into it to block it off. And it seems to be blowing dirt all over the engine bay in that immediate area.
2. Should I block it off with some duct tape...?

What's the purpose? What's supposed to be there?

Click the pics for the larger versions.

Any help would be appreciated!

Truthfully would not affect anything, however could be making a weird sound, its before the air filter.

Are you talking about the air filter box...? I'm not that dumb if so .

If you're talking about something else, can you post a pic please?

I was going to but my cars in a million pieces out in the garage and my cat was playing hide under the car cover so I gave up. There's 2 electrical conections that hook up to the square thing. I think it's for the flip up lights (trans am).
