Holds second gear too long.

My buddy just bought a 95 Trans Am with an A4/2.73.The problem is that the tranny holds second gear way too long. You can feel the car stop pulling and it
slingshots when it finally hits third.Could this be a simple t.v. cable adjustment
or possibly a more seriuos problem?

Ok I could be wrong but I dont think there even is a TV cable on a 95 only 93's since the 4L60E is an electronic trans. The trans could be slipping a bit. How many miles are on the car? Or it could be that there has been a gear change in it that u dont know and now it's goin to far into 2nd. Mine did that went i went up ot the 3.73

Does it hit the rev-limiter before it shifts into 3rd?

Re: Holds second gear too long.

If your still at around 5800 Rpm and its "slingshotting" it is probably not your tranny. It sounds like your not getting enough power at the higher RPM so it is having trouble pulling to the top of 2nd. When you hit 3rd the RPM goes back down again and you have power.

Check your Fuel pressure. A dying fuel pump would cause this.
Check your plugs, coil, wires, otpispark. Not getting spark at higher rpm can cause this.

I have had a bad coil myself do exactly this. I also had a dying fuel pump that felt almost exctly the same as the bad coil.

It shifts at almost 6000rpm(on factory tach). What should it shift at?How
accurate are the stock tachs?

My 4l60e with 160k miles on it was slipping like that, shot HARD into the next gear. Finally the fluid pump craped out on it and I had to have it rebuilt.
