High temp. tape instead of Jet Hot Coating???

Has anyone ever used that High Tempature tape that you
wrap around your headers to keep the heat down? How much
will this lower the tempature inside the engine compartment
compared to coating? Just curious.... Bill...

I wouldn't recommend it for a street driven car. Also, I don't thnk any header company will warranty headers that have header wrap.

Cool

Header wrap requires continuous maintenance and periodic replacement when it gets saturated with fluids or condensation from extreme temperature differences.

Do a search here and see what happened to T Byrne's F bod (yeah, the sponsor) when header wrap combusted.

...hummm, thanks a bunch for the info, ANYTHING that needs even
occasional maintenance is not for me, much less continuous maintenance. I will check out Byrne's F-body post. Combustion? That sounds like FIRE! & I don't have comp. insurance. Wrap is a bad idea for Bill..... Thanks again, Bill....

Just put it this way. Once you get oil or any flammable liquid. Kiss the car good bye because it will go up in flames.

The biggest problem is that the wrap does too good a job of keeping the heat in and the metal becomes brittle from overheating.

....hummm, brittle? and then it must crack, huh? Plus voids the warrantee. I guess I was just trying to save money. Yeah, save money by not paying for Jet Coating and then my car burns? Isn't that called stepping over dollars to save dimes??? Bill...

I used header wrap (Thermotec) as a temporary fix on a TT IROC last year. No fire, but when the wrap was removed to have the headers coated, it was VERY brittle and flaked apart easily. Periodic maintenance is the truth. Just have Jet-Hot or some coating company shoot them. Not that expensive and lasts a lot longer than wrap.
