high rpm

ok ive come to the conlusion that i want to raise my rev limiter. when my car is running right it wants to keep pulling in each gear. but my rev limiter kicks in and it wont let me. so i want to raise it a little higher. whats the safest level i can raise it too with the stock valvetrain? and what do i have to do to raise it to the 7k level. i know i will have to have a custom cam built and also have bigger lighter pushrods and stronger valve springs but where do i find them and whats the wallet damage gonna be?

Re: high rpm

if your car is stock there is no need to have the rev limiter removed because the our motors don't pull that high. I have my rev limiter set at 6700 and i have heads and a big cam. You don't need to remove it until you have at least a cam.

Re: high rpm

not to hijack a thread...but how much will the bottom end take for revving? I have head/cam but the bottom end is 143k mile stock..I usually shift at 6k or so...racing of course.

Probably depends on what you're doing with it. A heads and cam engine might rev to 7k, but if you're boosting it you'll probably break a rod before that. On that same note, if you're not using a power adder, then your pushrods and springs are the main problem in revving that high. You'll float the valves on a stock LT1 between 6k and 6.5k rpms. But if you want to rev that high headers, heads, & cam are a must because LT1 exhaust manifolds & ports flow pretty crappy. Of course, an LT1 winding out all the way to 7k sounds pretty awesome.

Re: high rpm

Man I would NEVER push my motor that much... spinning a bearing just scares the crap out of me.

Re: high rpm

If you have a stock valve train that also includes stock cam then your peak HP is about 5400 rpms. If you go over that then your just losing power and track times.
