High Mileage
Hey everyone. I am looking to buy a 93-97 Camaro Z28. With the LT1 engine. How many miles is "too many" when I look for one. Lets say if It has over 100K miles on it, how good would it run in general, would i be able to floor it without it blowing. Also how would the compression be on an engine with over 100K miles? And if over 100K is kinda bad what would I need to do to make it work like it had 30K miles on it?
Also with an engine rebuild kit, would it make the engine run like its brand new?

It'll run fine with 100k+ miles on it. There are some guys on the board in 11s with 120-130k on the clock.
If you purchase a high mileage LT1, my suggestion would be to stick with bolt-ons an leave the internals alone, and eventually do a stroked setup.
Good luck finding your car.

as long as the car has been taken car of they will scoot for well over 200,000 miles. My ta has 177,600 miles and it ran a 14.1 bone stock before any of my stuff in the sig. Also got a 94 z28 that has 223,000 miles and still runs like a champ. And yes I floor mine all the time and it has not "blown" yet. Look at the car you want to get and you can tell if it has been ragged on or not. And dont get a car with anything done to it, try to find stock if you can.
As long as its been maintained there shouldnt be a problem with the motor. Mine has over 140k miles and runs great(knock on wood). Theres quite a few members on here with 150-250k miles on the original engine. Like he said Id keep it to bolt ons until you do a rebuild though.
I wouldn't worry about the mileage as much as it's maintenance history. I bought my '97 with 102,000, but it was in better shape than the others I looked at that all had less mileage.
When I was looking at the car I found in the glove compartment every scheduled maintenance receipt that the original owner had done, and they were all done by the GM dealer. He went by the book (and a few of those are expensive).
Anyway, I've seen a lot of high-mileage LT1's on this board. And I've had mine for a year and it is perfect. I do plan on rebuilding the entire motor, and this car is not my daily driver, but I wouldn't hesitate driving this car on a 1,000 mile journey. I wouldn't say the same for my wife's '95 Lumina which has 90,000 miles.
