high flow exhaust on a budget

What do you guys think of this setup

SLP shorties
Off road y pipe
SLP cat back

Im doing this because i want to pass smog still by throwing on the stock y pipe with the dual cats for smog tests. Or if i get enough money i may buy the random technology high flow dual cat y pipe, and then should pass smog always (hopefully??)

Will i get an SES light if i normally run the off road pipe?

Opinions please...

Thanks,
Greg

no ses light with no cats but if you want it to flow get a cutout at least

and there are better headers than slp besides they have crappy customer service

I believe on your 96 OBDII set-up you will get an SES light unless you run 02 sims, also with free flowing exhaust systems on OBDII cars, there is a chance you'll throw an EGR code.
Anyone else? Correct me if I'm wrong!

You're right, you will get an SES light if you run an offroad pipe unless you run O2 sims. You may or may not have the EGR problem, I fell victim to it, but not everyone has the problem and it's not a huge deal.

I probably wouldn't buy the SLPs, but who else makes a true emissions-legal header for a '96?
If you're on a budget, you should keep your stock I-pipe (cat to muffler) as it's better than most people think. Then, you could just get a better muffler and/or a cutout. Hooker makes a good muffler that will fit the stock pipes. I have a Dynomax Ultra-Flow Welded muffler myself; sounds really good and they flow really well.
